Pro tip for your upcoming summer: playing with SPF 4 is a dangerous game. Which is why I’ve now switched back to SPF 8.
NPR’s All Songs Considered Audience Names Honeysuckle Best New Music
Bob Boilen’s segment is like a singles mixer you actually want to attend. Last week NPR’s All Songs Considered opened a poll to hear what the general public has been listening to this year, and what resonated with them. We’re excited to announce that Berklee alumuni Margaret Glaspy and Boston’s own Honeysuckle made the Top 10 list! Check it out on NPR Music’s website.
Eva Walsh’s Music Video is Anything but a Downer
“Bittersweetheart” from Eva Walsh’s new album (available July 1st) paints a picture that is, well, bittersweet. In her video, Walsh contrasts light and dark in a portrayal of the confusing feelings that come after a breakup. The scenes lean toward the romantic: Walsh wears a colorful frock in a field or lays down, surrounded by moody candles in semi-darkness.
Walsh has bright, strong pipes that easily dip into a whisper – an effect she deftly uses in “Bittersweetheart.” The song culminates with Walsh belting: “Time flies when you don’t really want to give up the flight / give up the dream / give up on you.” Then she begins again, her voice a tiny speck of sound, growing with every “bittersweet” uttered.
Hometown Group Tall Heights Signs with Sony
Tall Heights have announced they have signed with Sony Music Masterworks. Band members Tim Harrington and Paul Wright have been heralded on NPR, Wall Street Journal, and others with good reason. They no longer need to busk outside Faneuil Hall– they’ve honed their combination of cello, guitar, and voices to rise to their current success.
The album comes out August 19, by which time their tour will be well underway. We’ve been following this group for a few years now so excuse us as we reminisce with our Neighborhood Sessions with the band.
