American Symphony of Soul with Bad and Blue at Wonder Bar – Selected by Knar

These two local acts will be bringing some explosive energy to Wonder Bar– expect big brass sounds, soulful vocals and fortified funk. Read what Jon learned about the latest album by A.S.S. and be prepared to electrify your evening.

Leon Bridges at The Wang Theater – Selected by Jon

Last time I saw Leon Bridges perform was at tiny Cafe 939’s Red Room. Since then, he’s made some moves. This weekend, he’s playing the Wang, a theater roughly 17 times the capacity. It’s a good thing soul music knows no size.

Brian Fallon & The Crowes at Royale – Selected by Josh G.

With the Gaslight Anthem on hiatus, Brian Fallon’s gone solo. Eschewing his band’s loud rock, Fallon’s turned to folk music, one of his original inspirations. From the preview tracks, the move seems cathartic for Fallon, as his confessional and conversational lyrics fit nicely over quieter, more intimate arrangements. The Royale show will also act as a de facto album release party; Fallon’s Painkillers drops on the same day.

Beach House at House of Blues – Selected by Matt J.

Put on your best pair of headphones. Listen to any album by Beach House front to back. Cry that you can’t get tickets to the intimate “installation” show on the 12th. Get tickets to the show at House of Blues like everyone else.
