Bent Knee Ticket Giveaway (6/9)

Bent Knee is undoubtedly one of the most experimental bands to come out of the Boston scene in the last decade. One of the most defining factors of Bent Knee is the group’s uncanny ability to innovate. To pin down their sound as one genre or subgenre would be a disservice and something that becomes an even harder task with repeat listens (though, avant-garde with some progressive rock is a fine place to start). Since their inception, the group has embarked on numerous headlining tours, been featured in various media-outlets, and recently performed their own Audiotree session

The six-piece, however, is not without their distinct characteristics. For starters, the band carries a violinist in its holster, and boy, does Chris Baum play loud and proud. Drummer Gavin Wallace-Ailsworth sounds like an animal stampede behind the kit, and the rest of the crew plays about as well as you’d expect a band with prog-rock roots that’s been playing together since 2009. But it’s vocalist Courtney Swain’s unique delivery that seals the deal: a mixture of vivid imagery and off-kilter melodies elevate what were already stand-out tracks instrumentally, into something truly one of a kind.

Bent Knee is performing at The Sinclair on June 9th in support of their latest album Frosting. Their latest album marks the groups first endeavor into bedroom pop—a far cry from the industrial grit on display in their first few efforts. That isn’t to say they lost sight of what makes the band so good; in fact, it only reinforces just how much their sound can bend.
