Weekly Wrap-Up: 4/17/17

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap-up: Patriot’s Day Edition, where catching up on Boston’s music happenings is a sprint and not a marathon!

Dwilly Releases “The Birds and the Bees” feat. Kyle Thornton

Boston-based artists Dwilly and Kyle Thornton couldn’t have asked for better timing for the release of their new single with this balmy weather we’ve been having. The new song, entitled “The Birds and the Bees,” has an uptempo hip-hop beat that would fit nicely in your summer “feel good” playlist. This is Dwilly’s first single of the year, and he pairs his upbeat hip-hop style with Kyle Thornton’s soulful vocals. You might have caught Kyle Thornton & The Company at Sound of Boston’s Listen Local event a couple of weeks ago!

Boston Calling Announces Comedy Experience

This is no joke, the renowned Boston Calling music festival is taking on comedy. The music festival, which is taking place May 26-28, was scheduled to feature a film experience hosted by actress Natalie Portman. The film experience is now postponed to a later date, and is being replaced by the Comedy Experience, hosted and headlined by comedian Hannibal Buress. Among the 13 comics in the lineup are Tig Notaro, Pete Holmes, and Eugene Mirman. Check out the official site to see the full comedy and music lineups, and also to purchase tickets!

Briggs Fest at Lawn on D

Sticking to the theme of nice weather, now is a good time to think about getting tickets for some summer music events, such as the Briggs Fest on July 29th. The festival is taking place at the Lawn on D in South Boston. Boston’s Sammy Adams will be there, along with others such as Waka Flocka Flame and B.o.B. It should be a lovely summertime event! Visit their site for more details and tickets.
