Alex G with Teen Suicide and Palehound at Cuisine en Locale – Selected by Noah

If you follow Selected Sounds religiously (and I’m sure you do), you’ll know that I love Alex G. Since his last stop in Boston, Alex Giannascoli has only received more praise. He showed up on the Pitchfork Readers Poll survey, released his phenomenal album DSU in Europe on Lucky Number Records, and released two (honestly pretty mediocre) music videos. As prolific as Alex G is, there is bound to be much more to come—so see him now and impress your friends. (Make sure to tell them you saw him at a farm-to-table restaurant turned DIY-space by night for bonus points.)

Damien Jurado at Brighton Music Hall – Selected by Jonah

As any Nirvana fan knows, the Seattle music scene goes way back, and one of the latest great voices to come out of the city is Damien Jurado. The singer/songwriter is a poet with his lyrics, and recently, an experimentalist with his sound. He is a huge presence in the Northwest, and you should jump to get a little taste of it at the intimate Brighton Music Hall.

Goo Goo Dolls and Shaggy at House of Blues Boston – Selected by Jon

Never thought you’d see Goo Goo Dolls & Shaggy on the same bill, did you? Dreams do come true. As part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay’s fundraising night, Goo Goo Dolls will perform hits “Iris” and “Slide,” and Shaggy will let you know, once again, that it wasn’t him.

The Color and Sound at The Red Room – Selected by Becca

If the dreary winter weather is still getting you down, The Color and Sound are sure to put on a great show with their danceable pop-rock tunes. Not to mention, they’re from Boston, so you can have a good time and support local musicians at the same time!
