Were you stuck in a complicated mess this past Valentines? Neither single nor taken? Do not fret – Club Madison’s upcoming single “Untitled Lover” is a beautifully composed situationship anthem for all those looking for solace this coming February 28th.
“Untitled Lover” holds the honor of being Club Madison’s first original piece of music to be published. The indie band Club Madison is made up of five members: Thomas Sica on drums, Jared Parks on bass, David Caples as lead vocalist, Mike Delvecchio as lead guitarist, and Dean Ciampa on keyboard. Originating from the town of Wilmington, this group started off as merely a high school pep band. Then, after a few additional members, a couple of name changes, and a new vision, Club Madison was born.
Each member differing in musical backgrounds, this band has a diverse range of inspirations all the way from country, to jazz, to rock. Club Madison’s debut is starting off very strong with “Untitled Lover” due to all of its lyrical and sonic excellence. In an interview with Sound of Boston, the band expressed that “This has been a long time coming. We’ve been ready to have music out for so long, it’s just a matter of getting it all together and having all the pieces fit in the right place – and we’re excited for this to be out there, to have music, and to start rolling Club Madison.”
Club Madison also shared an appreciation and gratefulness for the opportunity to record in a proper studio, emphasizing “I think it’s one thing to have the music, but the place where you record it and the facilities do play a huge role, because there’s a difference if we just went into a bedroom, had a couple mics, and we just tried to toss it together. It wouldn’t sound as good as it did if we didn’t go to a proper facility. So I have to shout out Alpha Omega Music Studios in North Reading which is where we recorded it.”
Their newest single displays impeccable talent and strong tonality, each instrument being in perfect harmony with one another. The tanginess of the electric guitar strums, the dreamy plucks of the bass, the ethereal echoes of the keys, all in combination with the grounding drum rhythm create a mesmerising atmosphere that almost feels tangible to the listener. Layered with the emotional rasp of Caples voice, “Untitled Lover” passionately tugs on every heart string.
When asked about the song’s meaning, Parks answered, “I didn’t really write about anyone in particular. But it’s kind of about a tumultuous like – not really a relationship – more like a situationship, if you want to use that term. Like, the in-between kind of stage – definitely on the bad side of it.” In other words, it’s a song that most people will be able to relate to on some level. It focuses on the complicated feelings that result from being someone’s secret, and the internal pain of toxic love. Caples mentioned that a favorite lyric among the band is the line, “Don’t need to cut me to make me bleed,” which showcases this song’s poetic and metaphorical representation of the deep wounds that arise from that unlabeled, secretive, agonizing type of romance.
Overall, this single is the perfect symbol of Club Madison’s indie vibes, their unique style, and their relatable themes.
