Jazz rapper McKinley Dixon returned to Boston to tour newest release, “Magic, Alive!” — a record that features once-local Anjimile. Throughout the night, driving percussion raced with McKinley Dixon’s rapping. You could feel the weight on “Chain Sooo Heavy” as the tempo slowed and Dixon’s bars dragged, and could hear the defiance of “Mezzanine Tippin’” as the drummer slowly slammed his kit, the keys player’s body lurched forward and back in emphasis. A collective chant of “one more song!” brought the band back to their places in what seemed to be an unplanned encore – one that was met with cheers when Dixon revealed the final song would be “Run Run Run.”
