In early June, Kal Marks made the announcement that their next tour (supporting Young Widows) would be their last run of shows. With over a decade’s worth of releases, the band has cemented themselves as a staple in Boston’s music scene, making their last set at Arlington’s the 4th Wall feel pretty surreal to say the least. The band’s hometown sendoff delivered on the energetic live shows that they were known for, creating a fitting last set and a bittersweet reminder of what will be missed.
Following Kal Marks, the night was rounded out with performances by Philadelphia’s Rid of Me (making good use of the venue’s projection screen, playing in front of Alien Workshop’s skate video Photosynthesis) and headliners, Young Widows, playing through their latest album Power Sucker in its entirety. Contrasting Kal Marks’ departure tour, Power Sucker was a bit of a reemergence for Young Widows, as it was the band’s first full release since 2014’s Easy Pain.
