Sound of Boston is an online music publication that covers the culture, events, and artists comprising Boston’s vibrant music scene. Our city has a lot of talent to offer to the music world; our staff works to raise awareness of local acts and to help them to reach an audience.
While the world waits for a ‘Boston Sound,’ Sound of Boston is here to show you that it already exists—you just have to know where to look. Our talent lurks in the basements of Allston, bounces with the bumping bass of House of Blues, and buzzes under the watchful eye of the Elvis bust at Great Scott. It’s out serenading the bronze-masked statues of Davis Square and crooning to clammy crowds in the depths of Park Street station. It’s leaking lullabies from the house next door; it’s stamping and shouting on your neighbor’s front porch.
Together, we can uncover the sound of Boston.
In the summer of ’13, Jonah Ollman and Knar Bedian met at a music festival in Massachusetts. After discovering their shared love for music, they decided to partner on Sound of Boston, a project highlighting to city’s local scene proposed to Ollman by founder and CEO of Sound of Aarhus, Steffen Paust. In just a few months, the staff of Sound of Boston expanded to include over a dozen writers.
Sound of Boston was named “Music Publication of the Year” in 2023 by Boston Music Awards. The publication has also been a Boston Music Awards nominee for “Music Blog of the Year” in 2017 and “Music Publication of the Year” in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
