Weekly Wrap-Up: 7/28/2014

This past weekend was, hands down, plastic cups up (cheers!), the greatest music weekend of the 2014 New England summer. With performances spread across the map, music pulsed from Boston to Newport all weekend long.

While folkies bounced to Newport festival tunes, Bostonians jived to free “B-SAW” performances on the Copley green. The Boston Summer Arts Weekend promised and delivered a weekend of wide-ranged tunes, despite the unpredictable weather. Yesterday’s lineup featured international ensemble Women of The World, master jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, and bluegrass pioneer giant Ricky Skaggs, among others. There was little space to spread blankets in Boston’s Back Bay, with an all-ages audience sprawled across the square; the two-day event attracted thousands. Check out photos here.

Missed out this weekend and itching for a festival? We’ve got you covered.

Boston’s favorite food trucks are pulling in alongside local bands Richard James & the Name Changers, The Chicken Slacks, and Louie Bello for BostonFest 2014. Snag tickets now for the festival, taking place August 7 at the Seaport World Trade Center.

Meet multi-talented Miette Hope-Goldman: 17-year-old Colorado Springs native, singer-songwriter, beat-boxer, and soon-to-be Berklee attendee. Miette was recently named the first-ever recipient of the Vans Berklee Off The Wall Scholarship — an award that will grant her full tuition at the music school. Berklee alumnus Jeff Apruzzese of Passion Pit accompanied Vans representatives in awarding her the scholarship.
