Grey Season by Knar Bedian

Weekly Wrap-Up: 5/8/17

Welcome back to the Weekly Wrap-up: “Is It Summer Yet?” Edition. This week, we ask the question, is it summer yet? Here’s an overview of three events to look forward to this summer:

PorchFest Season Has Arrived

What says “summer” better than Porchfest? This is the time of year to venture out to the suburban lands of Boston and play a game of musical porches. Every summer, groups such as the Somerville Arts Council honor the porch as a stage for local musicians to showcase their talents during this event that is free to attend. Crowds of people wander through the neighborhoods to enjoy every type of music. Somerville PorchFest is coming up soon on May 13 from 12pm-6pm, and registration for musicians is open until May 11. Check out the event website for registration and a map of all the bands.

Also, stay tuned for Arlington Porchfest on June 3rd and Jamaica Plain Porchfest on July 8. So far, Arlington has more than 120 bands signed up to play on 70 porches, and JP has performers of every kind on over 80 porches!

Music x Art x Technology: Together Boston

The last summer music event we’re wrapping up for you today is the Together Boston festival, which is taking place May 14-21. This week-long event embraces more than just music. The festival is a convergence of music, art and technology and hosts daytime and nighttime events throughout the week. This year, the festival will feature a series of educational and professional discussions, demonstrations, installations, screenings, and  performances at venues around the Boston area. Visit the event website to see the full lineup and schedule of events!

Boston Calling’s Block Parties Are Back

Last week, Boston’s renowned music festival, Boston Calling, announced this year’s Block Party Series, which will be taking place in Dewey Square Park every Thursday evening from May 4 through September 14. These events are free to the public, and will shine a spotlight on local artists such as DJ Frank White, DJ Knife, and Joshua Carl. The Block Party Series is an added bonus to three-day Boston Calling music festival happening May 26-28. The Block Party performers will be announced each week throughout the summer, so keep up with the event on social media, the interwebs, send a carrier pigeon, or wherever you get your news information.
