Good Old War at Brighton Music Hall -Selected by Matt J.

How would you describe Good Old War in just a few words? “Finger pickin’ good.” You don’t need 11 herbs and spices, just two savory voices and an acoustic guitar.

Circa Waves at Great Scott -Selected by Knar

Come hear British indie rockers Circa Waves sing about T-shirt weather in what surely won’t be T-shirt weather. They’ve gotten so many Vaccines and Strokes comparisons that we probably shouldn’t have bothered to mention it. But now we have, so go see why they’ve racked up 12 million Spotify listens for a song about sleeping in and burning fingers on hot seat belts.

The Novel Ideas at Great Scott  -Selected by Zoë

Local act The Novel Ideas describe themselves as a “country folk quintet,” but their music has a modern twist that pushes them past the boundaries of that genre. But why take my word for it when you can see them up close and personal at the Great Scott?

Michael Christmas at House of Blues Boston -Selected by Jon

On tour with Mac Miller, Michael Christmas has come home for Christmas. Last time I saw Michael Christmas perform he was opening for Chance the Rapper and Action Bronson at the Sinclair; pretty cool to see him performing with a bunch of rap stars these days.
I wonder if Christmas’ regular-guy rap delivery will change when he’s no longer a regular guy?

Dopapod at The Palladium -Selected by Matt M.

I was never a huge fan of so-called instrumental “jam bands” until someone showed me Dopapod. From spacey dance music to disco-tinged funk to heavy blues rock, this talented group is a classic case of “a little something for everyone.” There’s a good reason why they sell out shows across New England every Halloween and New Years. These guys don’t mess around when it comes to bringing the party.
