Weekly Wrap-Up: 7/12/2015

Welcome back to the Wrap-Up! In addition to one local legend’s continued rise to totally legit not at all depressing fame and fortune, this week brings us a new Palehound tune, Jonesing’s split record announcement, and a few unlikely covers from Ripe.

Palehound’s “Healthier Folk” is a Top Notch Bummer Jam

‘90s-glazed indie pop group Palehound plays some good old fashioned music you can sulk to. Whether you’re beat from another day at that job where co-worker Janice gets just a little too eager for Wednesday night karaoke or you’re just spiraling down a black hole of Cheetos and pot induced apathy for the ride, you won’t have too much trouble getting into albums like 2013’s Bent Nail EP. Lucky for you, you mind-numbing, indifferent youths, there’s more where that came from!

Check out the new single from Ellen Kempner and friends, entitled “Healthier Folk,” and watch out for their debut full-length Dry Food dropping August 14 on Exploding In Sound Records.

Jonesing Announce Three-Way Split with Eastern Leaves, John Kohen

Hailing from the north shore ‘burbs, punk outfit Jonesing has announced their follow-up to last summer’s Dad Jokes, and it’s coming in a joint package alongside Eastern Leaves and John Kohen. While the track-listing isn’t out yet, you can expect to hear the effort in full July 21 courtesy of Sorry Dad Records.

Ripe Covers Three Different National Anthems Because Why the Fuck Not?

I know Ripe. You know Ripe. I know that you know Ripe. And we all know Ripe is fucking cool as shit, right? Well, not only is the funk rock jam band gearing up to release their sophomore EP Hey Hello, but they’ve also just released their own re-recorded versions of the Chilean, Argentinean, and Bolivian national anthems because Ripe does whatever the heck Ripe wants (and also because the world’s largest international sports broadcasting station, BeIn Sports, asked them to be a part of a crazy project called BeIn the Beat which you can learn all about right here).

Take a listen to Ripe’s contribution to BeIn the Beat, featuring Felipe Campos and Noah Conrad, below.
