Weekly Wrap-Up: 6/21/2015

Happy summer and welcome once again to the Weekly Wrap-Up, where we take each week’s Boston music news and throw it at your face via the Internet.

Kyle Thornton & The Company Vibe At Berklee with “Read Receipts”

Coming on the heels of their debut album and Lollapalooza announcement, Berklee’s Kyle Thornton and his soul-hopping company treated the college and a handful of scarily enthusiastic audience members to a live performance of their tune “Read Receipts,” which surfaced this past Wednesday. Check out the video below to catch Thornton reference David Beckham, Atari, Tyler, The Creator, and other things still somehow lingering in the realm of relevancy.

After Nearly 30 Years, Pixies Return to T.T. the Bear’s

It looks like T.T.’s, a club heralded around the city since its dive bar origins in the 70’s for housing everyone from Jane’s Addiction to Dinosaur Jr. to Arcade Fire, isn’t quite finished making Boston show-goers soil themselves in excitement, as it brought hometown heroes Pixies in for a semi-secret, assumably epic sold-out show last Thursday. Though some may argue that the once UK-chart-dominating, Cobain-influencing machine’s biggest accomplishment these days is not breaking their collective hip, word on the street is that the Pixies delivered with an unmatched intensity.

Big ups to this YouTuber for watching half the show through his/her iPhone so that we could do the same a week later.

Soaking In Summer, Shandies, and Grey Season at Last Thursday’s Block Party

Shortly after making an appearance at this year’s Bonnaroo Fest, the dudes in Grey Season came home to rock a Boston Calling Block Party over at Dewey Square. Shout out for surprising us by playing our favorite tune, “Roslyn,” at the end even though they were down a banjo (you know, Gooch, the one with the ‘fro). We were there to capture the magic, and now you can check it out for yourself.
