Welcome to Weekly Wrap-Up, our newest column that fills you in on what’s been happening lately in the Boston music scene!
First off, bluegrass group Dirty River String Band from Tufts University premiered their song “Old Country Blues” on Sound of Boston last week. The band’s energetic banjo playing, lively acoustics, and the lead singer’s hearty voice make up for a fun track that’ll take you back to the rolling fields of Kentucky. This blues group just released their first album When We Landed last Thursday and is available now on Bandcamp.
Last week, Berklee College of Music alumni American Authors (best known for their hit song “Best Day of My Life”) also released their very first album Oh What A Life. This indie rock band is currently on tour and will be back in Boston on June 25 and 26.
In other news, we’re thrilled to finally release our first Local Spotlight Neighborhood Sessions featuring acoustic folk duo Tall Heights. In our collaboration, this Boston-native band performed a live version of their song “Flash Boom” from their Man of Stone album and a cover of REM’s “Losing My Religion”. The duo’s harmonies accompanied by the rich tones of the cello and delicate strumming of the guitar create a hauntingly beautiful cover of this 1990’s hit song. Mark your calendars this June and July because the Lowell Summer Music Series is coming back for its 25th year! This outdoor concert series will be taking place at the Boarding House Park in Lowell, MA and will feature artists Delta Rae, Amos Lee, Neko Case, and Trombone Shorty.
