Ticket Giveaway: Eddie Japan Album Release (7/29)

On Saturday, July 29th at 9 PM, Great Scott is hosting a gala for the release of local band Eddie Japan’s new album, Golden Age—expect creative formal wear and specially-made Golden Age champagne cocktails.

Eddie Japan’s new album Golden Age is an ode to the zeitgeist of the Roaring Twenties and the Weimar Republic, particularly the culture of staying out late and embracing nighttime. Frontman David Santos explains in their bio that the atmosphere of the Golden Age still exists “between the reality of day and the fantasy and romanticism of night.” The video for “1 a.m.,” shown below, was shot in the North End at night to exhibit the band’s nostalgia for the boisterous nightlife associated with earlier times.

This album has been anticipated since 2013, when Eddie Japan broke into the Boston music scene. They gained a lot of attention after releasing their first EP, Modern Desperation, Part 1. The same year, they won Best Live Act at the 2013 Boston Music Awards and Boston’s Rock & Roll Rumble. What makes their music fresh is their willingness to experiment with diverse sounds, whether it be Latin music, 60s pop, 80s alternative, or British rock. Greg Hawkes of Boston band The Cars will be joining Eddie Japan on stage.

Opener Jenee Halstead is a singer-songwriter who has transitioned through many styles in the last few years, from light-hearted folk-pop to a heavier rock sound. In 2009, she won the Emerging Artist at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Abbie Barrett is a local rock musician who won Best Singer-Songwriter in 2015’s Boston Music Awards.

We have two tickets up for grabs! This giveaway closes Thursday, July 27th at 10 PM, so get your submissions in soon. This event is 21+.
