Plastic Waves at Great Scott -Selected by Jenna

The solo project of Boston-based musician Andre Bellido, Plastic Waves is a newcomer to the psychedelic scene—but once you get lost in his warm, looping melodies and hazy vocals, you’d never know Bellido was making music more akin to the Strokes than Tame Impala not too long ago. Check out our premiere of the Plastic Waves EP, and if you like what you hear, don’t miss out on their EP release show at Great Scott.

Oh Malô at O’Brien’s -Selected by Beth

Stop by O’Brien’s in Allston for a pint and some moody alternative rock lead by local act Oh Malô along with Bat House, Quarrels and Weakened Friends. After a long week, indulge in some well-balanced hypnotic rock by some up-and-coming talent. Oh Malô, nominees of “New Artist of the Year” (2015 Boston Music Awards), combine Tame Impala and Bombay Bicycle Club into a rhythmically complex atmosphere, but offer far friendlier ticket prices (seriously, it’s only 8 dollars).

Florist at Great Scott -Selected by Knar

Though LVL UP is headlining this bill, we’ve got our eyes set on other gems of the night: Brooklyn’s Florist and Boston’s own Kal Marks. Folk rockers Florist will pull a big scratchy blanket over the Great Scott audience– their soothing sound is cozy, yet their lyrics can be sometimes be discomforting. Though Florist’s lyrics tackle tough topics like mortality, they do so in a manner similar to Courtney Barnett’s by capturing specific and mundane everyday moments.

Jack Garratt at The Sinclair -Selected by Jon

Is he gospel? Indie? Electronic pop? With a vocal ability similar to—dare I say it—Sam Smith, British singer and multi-instrumentalist Jack Garratt should put on a good show no matter what label you want to throw on him. Watch as he mans his beatpad, shreds his guitar, and hammers some chords on the piano.

Quilt at The Museum of Fine Arts -Selected by Noah

To celebrate the release of their third album, Plaza, Boston-based Quilt will be having an album release show at the Museum of Fine Arts Remis Auditorium. The MFA is sure to be an unlikely, but pleasantly unique venue for the vaguely psychedelic Bostonians mix of pop and folk. And the night begins with local 14-piece ensemble Tredici Bacci, “delving into homage to the soundtracks of 60s and 70s Italian film.” So, yeah…there’s that too!

Wolfmother at Paradise Rock Club -Selected by Matt J.

Forever the second best band that sounds like that other band. With the amount of line-up changes Wolfmother has undergone since it’s inception, if you don’t see them now, you may never have the chance again. Remember your allergy pills kids, because these gentleman are going to shake ALL the dust off the ceiling.
