RAC with Big Data at Royale – Selected by Beth

Wednesdays aren’t your typical night for dancing, but Royale this Wednesday will be host to two of the most unique and talented acts in electronic music. Remix master RAC will be blending original dance tracks with his reimagined versions of pop and indie hits for a night of  upbeat tunes. His partner in crime for the night is Big Data, who crafts heavy instrumental soundscapes and has collaborated with artists like Joywave and Rivers Cuomo.

Nathaniel Rateliff at Royale – Selected by Knar

Moved from the Great Scott because of such high demand (and it’s sold out, again) Nathaniel Rateliff will be bringing rowdy, rip-roaring revival soul to the Royale. Anais Mitchell at The Me and Thee (Marblehead) – Selected by Will

Anais is not only a talented folk singer but also a wonderful storyteller. Her folk-opera “Hadestown”, which received wide critical acclaim, set the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice to post-apocalyptic America. She sang the part of Eurydice, and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver played Orpheus. With a voice like a blooming flower and dexterous guitar playing, Anais is an enchanting performer.

Dent (Boston Hassle Fest) at Brighton Music Hall – Selected by Matt M.

There’s no one quite like Dent playing in Boston right now. Though at first it might be tempting to lump them in with experimental noise bands, Dent pushes the envelope with intense psychedelic math-rock instrumentation and lead singer Lane Shi’s unmistakable haunting howls and shrieks. They’ll be performing at 6PM Saturday at Boston Hassle Fest, a celebration of local underground music and artistry. The festival kicks off this Friday at The Cambridge Elks Lodge, with nights two and three taking place at Brighton Music Hall. Advanced tickets were sold through Hassle Fest’s Indiegogo campaign (they were 111% funded), but tickets can bought at the door before each show. Check out the lineup and schedule here!

Minus The Bear at The Paradise – Selected by Noah

Long-time indie rockers from the Pacific Northwest, Minus the Bear have been tapping out guitar riffs in weird time signatures for a while. If you too listened to Menos El Oso in high school, this Veterans Day join Minus the Bear to celebrate the album’s 10th anniversary and feel kind of old. With song titles like “Absinthe Party at the fly Honey Warehouse” and “Get Me Naked 2: Electric Boogaloo,” Minus the Bear has always known how to have fun, even when sophomoric.
