The unrelenting weather might be slowing the T to a pathetic crawl, but the Boston music scene stops for nothing, not even foot after foot of snow. Doomtree at The Sinclair – Selected by both Tom and Jonah

T: Doomtree is an indie supergroup of some of the best rappers and beat makers from the always-fresh Minneapolis hiphop scene. They are a tight knit crew who compliment each other across the hiphop spectrum, from Stef’s (P.O.S.) blistering flow, to Dessa’s poetic wordplay; from Sims considered realism to Mike Mictlan’s tell-it-like-it-is style. They form a cohesive whole all wrapped up in Lazerbeak’s and Paper Tiger’s diverse production – and I didn’t even mention everyone!

J: When a ton of rappers get in a room together, the chemistry doesn’t always produce great music, but with Doomtree, the Minneapolis-based indie hip-hop collective, the end product is greater than the sum of its parts. The seven rappers, led by P.O.S., create a hurricane of live intensity at every show, resulting in one of those night you can’t wait to tell your friends about.

Friendly People, one of our favorite local acts, has changed their name! Now known as Weather (not to be confused with this craziness happening in town this month), they are taking the intimate Great Scott stage to show off their newly-named selves! Trust me, they’re as good as ever and will be joined by fellow awesome Bostonians Covey, Alpenglow, and Babydriver.

Emmy the Great at Great Scott – Selected by Knar

Though Emmy the Great already has a few albums under her belt, her latest EP suggests she’ll be stepping away from her older, acoustic sound and instead riding the indie electronica wave. You can’t help but float along to “Swimming Pool,” and with critics drawing up comparisons to the cinematic feel of Lana del Rey and playful cheek of Lily Allen, she’ll be one to watch.

Anjimile at T.T the Bear’s Place – Selected by Becca

Catch our latest Neighborhood Sessions musicians at this chill venue in Cambridge. With new music on the way, this set will most likely be filled with the latest and catchiest tunes in Anjimile’s repertoire. And to top it all off, the other three bands in the line-up are all Boston-area musicians as well, so you’re in for a local treat.

Screaming Females at Great Scott – Selected by Matt

The Screamales are hands down one of the tightest rock trios on the scene. Frontwoman Marissa Paternoster’s shreds gorgeously across the guitar neck, her vocal presence often shifting from a delicate sing-song to fiercely feminine wails and howls. I mean, it is in their name after all. With impressive improv skills coming from the rhythm section, these New Jersey locals are sure to turn some heads in Boston.

Dan Wilson at The Red Room @ Cafe 939 – Selected by Zoë

Dan Wilson may be recognized as the lead singer of Semisonic, who brought us Closing Time and lesser-known gems such as Secret Smile. He’s also a mastermind songwriter, co-writing hits for other artists such as the Dixie Chicks’ Not Ready To Make Nice. On Friday, he comes to Boston with Words and Music by Dan Wilson.
