Zoya at The Middle East Upstairs – Selected by Knar

This night will be packed with local acts, but be sure you don’t miss Zoya; her warm vocals are often complemented by light drumming and guitar strumming, a sure way to battle the gloomy forecast this week.

Flosstradamus at House of Blues Boston – Selected by Jonah

If you are looking to completely lose it, go crazy, throw your arms in the air and not stop moving until the wee hours of the morning, there is no better place to go than a Flosstradamus show. The Chicago-based duo brings the hardest trap beats out there to each and every show, not letting a soul escape without turning it up to 11!

Viva La Hop / Ripe / Biscuits & Gravy at The Middle East – Downstairs – Selected By Jon

Part of their East Coast tour, Viva comes alive at The Mid Easy with fellow local groups Ripe and Biscuits & Gravy. Bring your dancing shoes. It’s gonna get funky.

Fridays, December 12th & 19th, 2014

Speedy Ortiz at Great Scott – Selected by Noah

Speedy Ortiz will be performing at Great Scott three times this December as part of a holiday residency. On their Facebook page they have promised different sets and new songs at each show (in addition to “**magic** surprises” and “super-secret” guests). But if once is enough Speedy for you, go on December 19th when they will be joined by Lemuria, Boston natives Krill, and suburban DC-based Two Inch Astronaut. Krill’s Steve Hears Pile in Malden and Bursts into Tears is one of the strangest and best EPs of 2014, and Two Inch Astronaut’s Foulbrood, released on November 25th, could be an underground breakout for the band. Caution: All three shows are 21+.

A Wilhelm Scream at Sinclair – Selected by Matt

I scream for A Wilhelm Scream, what can I say? These New Bedford hardcore punk locals are back in the city for the first time since releasing their critically acclaimed 2013 full length Party Crasher. AWS always packs a punch with their diverse live sets, but with up-and-coming local openers like Rebuilder and Blind Mice on the bill, the $13 price tag is a steal.
