3LAU, Carnage – 11/21/13 – House of Blues

Carnage, the DJ who lovingly refers to his followers as the Chipotle Gang, has seen one of the most meteoric rises in the past year. Even 12 months ago, people barely knew his name. Then he dropped his incredible remix of Hardwell’s “Spaceman”. From there, his career has skyrocketed to a point where he is now headlining House of Blues Boston. A few months back, mashup king 3LAU may have been the favored headliner here, but now, the two are neck and neck in terms of popularity, quite a feat for the newcomer.

3LAU, now verging on becoming quite a touring veteran, has his set down to a science. A nice balance of mashups, electro-house, poppy vocal samples, and a 90’s throwback here and there keep the young 20-something crowd going and constantly entertained. Surprises included the stand-out Yeezus track “Black Skinhead” and Blink-182’s “All The Small Things”. It’s clear that 3LAU knows his audience. Aside from a consistently failing display screen, his set went off without a hitch. However, when he attempted his signature champagne crowd dousing, he couldn’t get the bottle open! Whoops! Anyways, since that was the worst part of the night, I think we can easily call this show a win.

Carnage, closing out the evening, held the crowd in the palm of his hand. Drop after drop was made even heavier thanks to his jumping excitement on stage. The Guatemalan DJ’s stage presence is epic from his carefully and creatively shaved sideburns to his bright pink headphones and it’s clear that he is having as much fun as anyone there. All in all, these two DJs are some of the hottest names in the biz right now, thanks to their extremely loyal followings and popularity among college kids. Putting the together for a tour ensured that every single person in the venue had a crazy night.
